i-mate Ultimate 9502 Phone Reviews

i-mate_ultimate_9502_handheld_mobile_cell_phone_review_front_sides_slider_closed.jpgThe i-mate 9502 Ultimate packs pretty much every feature we have ever seen in a smartphone — and a whole bunch more — including full HSDPA access. A word of caution here: with full HSDPA, Telstra will advertise this phone’s network speed at a maximum of 7.2Mbps download and 1.9Mbps upload, but don’t expect to get anywhere near these speeds. One feature of the 9502 that i-mate spent considerable time promoting is security — the 9502 will ask you for a pin code every time you turn it on — a useful but hardly unique feature.

The device is bigger than a Blackjack (review), even with the extended battery, but not to the point that I would dismiss it as my everyday phone. It is more attractive than any sliding-keyboard smartphones out there. The i-mate 9502 feels solid, especially the display sliding mechanism, which was a good surprise. The keyboard is roomy and will please users with bigger fingers, but I did notice that the keyboard touch was not as good as with the i-mate 8502 (read hands-on), which is exceptional. The i-mates limited processing and storage power could be a problem for presentations that contain large images or complicated features, such as video.

The i-mate Ultimate 9502 has already supported the HSDPA connectivity technology, the users can easily connected with the Internet with high-speed download support. Featured with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 2.0, the users will easily transferring the data all over the peripheral that supports those technology. Moreover, a 3.15MP auto-focus camera is ready to accompany you to snap every wonderful moment with slightly clear images.

The device is very well specified with Windows Mobile 6 Professional, quadband GSM (850/900/1800/1900) phone with triband UMTS/HSDPA (850/1900/2100). It has a 400MHz Qualcomm processor, 256MB ROM, 128MB RAM, a 2.8″ VGA screen, WiFi B/G, Bluetooth 2.0, GPS, 3MP rear camera with mechanical auto focus, a VGA front camera for video calls, and a microSD slot. Powering all of this is a beefy 1660mAh battery.

The i-mate 9502 is also the first phone that we have ever seen with an RCA three pin video output–meaning you use it as alternative to a laptop when making presentations. While this is an exciting step in smartphones one step closer to being true UMPCs, we see this feature as really to rudimentary to be useful. To take the advantage of HSDPA connection support, i-mate had already featured this smart phone with a VGA camera; the camera can be used for video calls.
