The long wait for slim phone lovers is over - the Nokia 6500 Classic is finally here. While other phone manufactures have been busy releasing a horde of slim-line models, Nokia have been relatively dormant since the Nokia 6230 handset a while ago. So there is quite a lot of expectation on Nokia’s current offering and return to the slimline market.
And at first glance it seems like Nokia have got it right. The phone is small, thin and slick. It has all the features of the typical handset such as high resolution screen and camera. In addition Nokia have also been able to cram in their leaner Symbian S40 operating system into the device.
Nokia 6500 Classic is one good looking phone and has an aura of quality about it with its anodized aluminium case. But let’s see if the Nokia 6500 Classic is up to the task
The 6500 Classic comes equipped with a 2-megapixel camera with 8x digital zoom and a dual-LED flash, but we were a bit surprised that there is no front mounted VGA camera for video calls. The camera takes respectable, but far from outstanding, photos and despite the presence of a flash, night-time photography is a hit and miss affair. The camera doubles as a video recorder, with a resolution of up to 176×144 pixels.
The most interesting physical aspect of the Classic 6500 to me is how solid it feels. This phone feels very, very sturdy. It feels like the kind of phone that you could open beer bottles with, or use to break through a car window in an emergency. In fact, when the bottom cover is slid off to expose the battery, the 6500 Classic’s metal frame is easily seen. It is a tough little phone, and a pretty one at that.
Until now, Nokia has tended to shy away from ultra-slim handsets. But, the Nokia 6500 Classic remedies that by measuring ust 9.5mm thin. Available in either black or bronze, both colours look stunning. Although svelte, we were surprised as to how solid and sturdy it feels. So it should, as it’s crafted from anodized aluminium, which is one of the most durable, yet lightweight materials around. What’s more, the handset is individually diamond-polished, meaning no Nokia 6500 Classic is exactly the same.
Nokia 6500 Classic Review taken from stuff.tv “The 6500 Classic and Slide may share a codename, but that’s largely where the similarities end. Whereas the Slide packs
powerful features like a 3.2MP camera, the Classic uses its wafer-thin 9.5mm torso to court the style hound. It’s not a complete simpleton – the inclusion of 3G is helpful for web browsing – but the cameras is only 2MP and there’s no expandable memory. Still, it’s mined from the finest metal and also individually polished by nubile Scandinavian underwear models so not one phone is alike. Okay, we stretched the truth a little there –
but we still couldn’t tell the difference between the two Classics we played with.”
Nokia 6500 Classic Review taken from cnet reviews “The Nokia 6500 Classic is certainly not the most advanced phone in the world, but it is one of the best looking handsets we’ve seen in a while. It’s not flashy like the Nokia 8800, but it does look remarkably cool and sophisticated. Add in the fact it’s extremely easy to use and has a decent range of features and you’ve got a sure fire winner on your hands, available free on contract or for around £250 SIM-free or on pay as you go.”
