sony_ericsson_p1_1.jpgThe P1 expands the number of Sony Ericsson phones based on Symbian OS v9.1 and UIQ 3.0 to four, increasing the potential market for UIQ 3-based applications, and includes over 30 third-party applications embedded on the smartphone or as Try & Buy versions. A new desktop icon called “More applications” raises the profile of applications, making it much easier for end-users to download applications and improves the visibility of third-party developers’ products.

The Sony Ericsson P1 is a 3G Smartphone which provides it’s user with full office applications on their mobile handset. The user can view & edit documents on the move & have their business with them at all time. The P1 comes in a silver & black coloured casing which weighs a total of 124 grams which is a good weight for a 3G Smartphone with high capabilities. The screen displays up to 262,000 colours on a high resolution screen. The keypad is neat & compact which is positioned below the large colour touchscreen.

The Sony Ericsson P1 is the successor of the P990. It integrates many of the hardware features of the P990 in the form factor of the M600.  There is a Chinese version of P1 called P1c. Compare with P1/ P1i, P1c lacks of 3G, thereby using EDGE which is much slower but more available especially in the US and parts of Europe. The phone uses the UIQ 3.0 software platform, which is based upon Symbian OS 9.1. It is slightly thicker than the M600 as a result of the new hardware features, but this is reportedly largely indiscernible.

In terms of build quality, the P1 is rock solid. It feels like it would be able to survive some moderate abuse, and I am pleased with the choice of finishes on the device in general. The P1 stays reasonably clean looking, even after a lot of use. The display, as I mentioned before, can be hard to clean (dust gathers in the corners), but otherwise I have no complaints. The P1’s design is very subdued and tasteful, it is just that some real practical compromises have been made in order to keep the form factor so compact.

Sony Ericsson P1 is an ambitious PDA phone that is released by Sony Ericsson in 2007 to enter PDA phone market. Comes packed with big 262K Touchscreen with Stylus, WiFi and Bluetooth features, the Sony Ericsson P1 offers features that you can find in Palm PDA phone. Besides that, the Sony Ericsson P1 also Push Email feature ( supports IMAP, POP3, and SMTP email protocols) that allow you to access corporate Microsoft Exchange server and BlackBerry connect mail server.
